The river is born in the valley of the Sestaione, and on its course it receives  spring , rain and water from melting snow  from a complex network of tributaries. Famous for its extraordinarily crystalline water, it is renowned internationally for scuba diving. The river in some parts is turbulent, in other quiet, with baths suitable for bathing and a place chosen for many outdoor activities.

In the past it was the engine of human activity by supplying water to  mills, fields, paper mills and hydroelectric power plants. Now the river Lima (or “La Lima” as it is called by the Valligiani) has become a reminder for nature enthusiasts, fishing and river activities such as Rafting, Kayaking, Canyoning, Aquatrekking and Sup (Stand Up Paddleboard).
